Did you know that publishing a book could be an amazing boost to your business? Whether your goal is to hit a new income level, to help as many people as possible or to make real change in the world, a book could be an important tool to help make your mission a reality.

An open book lies in dappled shade.

Build Authority

Something strange happens when you publish a book. People suddenly start taking you more seriously than they did before. I’ve seen this in my own life more than once, in fact the first time I got a contract to write a book suddenly people had a new-found respect for my work!

Even before that, I remember struggling to be taken seriously by clients who always wanted to tell me what their favourite author thought. Authors who were not only less qualified than me but also didn’t know the details of my client’s specific situation. The person who wrote the book was always seen as the greater authority.

I’m not the only one who has noticed this effect. The impact of writing a book has been researched many times. One researcher, Schulz, said “The vast majority of the authors we surveyed — 96% — said they did realize a significant positive impact on their businesses from writing a book and would recommend the practice.”

You probably know that most authors don’t make vast amounts of money through book sales, it’s the indirect benefits that make such a big difference. Books can be used as an incredibly powerful tool to generate leads, and the authority you get as an author helps you close more deals, charge higher fees and even get better speaking engagements.

Could you be in the 3%?

It’s not surprising that around 85% of business owners want to write a book, they know they are missing out if they don’t. Unfortunately, most of them will never get around to starting. It’s the sort of project that tends to slide down the to do list. Sadly, even among those who start their book, only 3% will actually finish it.

Writing a book is a big undertaking. It takes a lot of time and dedication, and even the most skilled writers often struggle to see the project through. That sort of time is hard to find, and there always seems to be something more urgent that’s clamouring for your attention.

Let’s make it happen!

If you would like to add “author” to your profile, and send your favourite clients signed copies of your latest book, there are two things you can do to make the process easier.

If you have the skill, time and inclination to write the book yourself then my friend Erin Chamberlain offers a wonderful service as a book mentor. Whether you just want accountability to turn up and write, or the full editorial service, she has a package to help. You can find Erin here.

On the other hand, you could hire a ghostwriter.

I specialise in ghostwriting for successful course creators and podcast owners. Forget the traditional image of a ghostwriter spending days, or even weeks, interviewing their client. Neither of us have time for that! Instead I use my client’s existing courses, combined with podcasts and video content, as the source material for their book.

It takes almost no time on your side, all I need from you is access to the material and a little time to answer the occasional question. I only work on four books a year, so you can be sure that I will really dive into your material, your message and your voice. This is your book, I’m just the one sitting at the computer typing it out for you.

One of my clients recently said, “You’re amazing. I love reading it, it’s like reading myself back at me. It’s fantastic!” The thing I loved most about that message was that she felt like she was reading her own words – that’s my aim.

Just imagine, that book could be working it’s magic for you. Attracting clients, getting you top quality speaking opportunities or just getting your message out there and helping so many more people.

I know that “hopping on a call” is easier said than done, so if this is something you would like to explore further, just send me a message and tell me a little about your business and what your main aim is for your book. I’ll send you a short video letting you know more about how I can help.
